This bike—and the Samba and Softride for that matter—accepts tires as skinny as 1.25" it can fly on pavement, or tires as fat as 2.25" for big bumps. The stock 26 x 1.5" tires are smooth 0 pavement, yet fine for most fire trails. For more speed on the road, get it with drop bars. For off- riding, most people prefer stock straight bars. Scrutinize the meticulous frame construction and top-e drivetrain. No wonder the Rock ’n Roll is quickly catching up to the Duet in popularity. It’s a great bike «—u sıı <  RK u. The beam has just two drawbacks: It’s harder to get on, because the unloaded saddle sits about an inch higher (add 2.5 seconds of mounting time); and it elicits questions from noncycling strangers (“What is that? How does it work?”). Even so, most stokers we know prefer this bike, so plush is the ride. The Burley Rock ’n Roll Softride is the most com- fortable tandem you can ride. Don’t worry that paying less will haunt you later—the Samba’s parts cost less, but still work great. You get the Rock ’n Roll’s exclusive tandem-duty fork blades, tapered stays, and ovalized bottom tube—and the only difference in the frame is the color. Overall, at 39.8 Ib. the Samba is only 5 oz. heavier than the Rock ’n Roll (about the weight of a medium banana). The Samba is a terrific all-round on- and off-road tandem. It’s not the biggest seller in our line, but a lot of smart people here think it ought to be. 14% jua0y [4 Y 7 3 < [0] Here’s our least-expensive model, and appropriate technology for rides with family and friends. The frame has the same immaculate construction as our other models, but costs less because we’ve substituted some regular chrome-moly for some of the special Burley chrome-moly, and we didn’t weld in the direct internal tube—which is overkill on this type of bike, anyway.
